Note: The Observatory will be CLOSED April 22 - May 6 for critical visitor improvement projects.

Admission to the Observatory building, grounds, and telescopes is always FREE! Daily low cost DASH Observatory public bus service is available from the Vermont/Sunset Metro Red Line station. You may drive up to the Observatory and park in the parking lot or on the adjacent roads, however, roads leading up to the Observatory get very congested at busy times (weekends, evenings, holidays, spring break, summer). Parking near the Observatory is limited and costs $6.00-$10.00/hour during hours the building is open. You can also hike, bike, or walk up from parking elsewhere in the park. There is a modest fee to see the programs in the Samuel Oschin Planetarium.

Hours of Operation

Griffith Observatory is open six days a week.

Weekdays (Tuesday - Friday)Open 12:00 noon - 10:00 p.m.

Observatory grounds and parking are usually open whenever Griffith Park is Open (sunrise to 10:00 p.m. daily).

Samuel Oschin Planetarium Tickets

Be sure to see one of the live programs in the Samuel Oschin Planetarium! There are eight performances each weekday and ten performances each weekend day. Griffith Observatory offers three different planetarium shows each day the Observatory is open: Centered in the Universe, Water Is Life, and Light of the Valkyries. Tickets are $7 for adults, $5 for students with I.D. and seniors, and $3 for children between 5 - 12 years old. Children under 5 are admitted to the first show of the day, only, and must sit on an adult’s lap. FOTO members receive a discounted rate of $5. Tickets may only be purchased at the Observatory on the day of the show.

Once you have purchased planetarium tickets, there will be NO refunds (unless the show is canceled).

The Observatory accepts credit cards (VISA, MasterCard, and Discover only) or cash in payment for show tickets. We are unable to accept personal, corporate, or organization checks (including those from public institutions).

There will be absolutely no late admission to the theater. Once the doors have closed, the show is underway and must not be interrupted. If you must leave the theater during the show, you cannot be readmitted.

Griffith Park

The park is open each day from sunrise until 10:00p.m. There is no admission charge to enter.
