Volunteer with the Team

Are you ready to help expand the FOTO universe? FOTO volunteers come from a variety of professional backgrounds and bring a wide range of skills and experiences, but they all have one thing in common: Passion for the iconic Griffith Observatory.

As a member of the volunteer team, you'll make critical contributions to the support and promotion of the Observatory.

Current volunteer opportunities include:

  • Membership Recruiter: Do you love the Observatory and want to shout it from the hilltop? Join in supporting membership and volunteer drives.
  • Special Event Supporter (requires Monday evening availability): Assist with check-in, guest greeting, and guest seating. This team puts the Special in Special Events.
  • Development Aide: This task is mission critical. Work side-by-side with our development team researching grants and finding new ways to support Griffith Observatory.
  • Choose-your-own-volunteer-adventure: tell us about yourself and what you have to bring to the team. We can’t wait to hear from you!

All volunteers will be registered with the City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks. Volunteers must be fingerprinted and cleared by the City prior to beginning any volunteer work.

Please note: Volunteers must be at least 18 years old. FOTO volunteer tasks do NOT involve any kind of interpretive work of the museum exhibits or astronomy; the Observatory has Guide staff and telescope demonstrators to fulfill this need. If that work is of interest to you, please check current Observatory employment opportunities here.
