TLC Network, 9:00 p.m. March 1

Observatory Director Dr. E. C. Krupp joined the judging panel for the March 1, 2010, episode of the hit TLC series Ultimate Cake Off as the judges chose between three cakes designed to reflect Griffith Observatory and astronomical themes.

The competition featured three talented teams (led by cake decorating legend Colette Peters and past Ultimate Cake Off winners Norman Davis and Anne Heap) each designing a special cake commemorating both Griffith Observatory's 75 years of public service and the Cosmic Conjunction 2010: Diamond Nights * Northern Lights event being sponsored by Friends Of The Observatory (FOTO).

Joining Dr. Krupp on the judging panel were cake experts Margaret Braun and Leigh Grode, and the show is hosted by chef and TV personality George Duran.

Griffith Observatory is celebrating its 75th anniversary in 2010. Since the building opened on May 14, 1935, more than 73 million people have experienced cosmic perspective. Admission to the Observatory is free, and the building is open six days a week, 10-12 hours each day.

Cosmic Conjunction 2010: Diamond Nights * Northern Lights is a celebration of the Observatory's special anniversary and the intersection of astronomy and the arts. With spectacular visual and musical moments, amazing food, and a unique setting, the May 15 event promises to be among the most talked-about evenings of the year. And the proceeds from the evening support Friends Of The Observatory's essential funding for the Observatory's school program. For more information, go to the Friends Of The Observatory website.
